Notes
I used 5 very large, orchard fresh apples for this recipe. The apple sauce is heavy on cinnamon, because it’s delicious that way. But you can experiment with adding less sugar and cinnamon if you wish. Or, additional sugar and cinnamon can be added to taste after the apple sauce is cooked. The type of apples to be used depends on the taste of the person making the apple sauce. I prefer a very fresh, tart apple and that is what I would recommend. Gala or Pink Lady apples are the most common apple that would be wonderful for making apple sauce. But any apple that a person likes will be great. Some apples are much sweeter and less tart, so less sugar may be used. A sweet apple is a great way to reduce the sugar added to the apple sauce for those wanting to do that. The apple sauce can be cooled then stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or frozen for up to two months.
