Well, we had 21 people at the lake cabin and I survived it. I can’t believe that many people drove all the way down to the middle of nowhere to party but they did. The lure of J’s ribs and a boatride were just too much. Everything went great.
Thursday night we had Garrett there and didn’t get much accomplished. J headed to bed soon after Garrett went to sleep so I took myself a 6 pack and my ipod and headed down to the pontoon boat. I sprayed down in Off and layed back and drank some beer and watched the stars. Saw three shooting ones. It was about 80 degrees and no moon, so there were plenty of stars out. Very nice and relaxing night. The crickets and frogs were screaming so loud I could barely hear my ipod, which was totally fine with me. I love that sound. Reminds me of my childhood on the river. It was so great just floating and drinking and relaxing and I really wished that I had someone to share the evening with since it was so nice. J never does that kind of thing with me, so I need to train Garrett to do it with me one day. Minus the beer part, of course.
The morning of the 4th we got an early start, since sleeping late is not an option anyway with a 5 month old around. We got all the food cooking and the tables and chairs and tents set up. The first people arrived at 10:30 and everyone slowly trickled in after that. I took a group out for a boat ride before we ate lunch. We cruising around and killed some time until the BBQ was ready.
We got back just as the last rib was coming off the grill, so perfect timing. We all ate and ate – SO MUCH FOOD. Gah my belly was aching it was so full. I made a flag fruit pizza but I didn’t even get a chance to take a picture of it I was so busy. Then we went swimming for a while, or maybe I should say floating. The weather was perfect. 85 degrees and breezy. Just amazing (and pretty much unheard of) for 4th of July in Alabama.
Garrett had like 8 babysitters between the grandparents and aunts/uncles, so I took more people out for boat rides and innertubing. I threw everyone off the tube except my 13 year old cousin. Fun times.
All in all it was a great day. J’s mom and dad took Garrett home with them at 5:00. Martha and crew stayed til 7 pm, and Lori, Anthony, Cutler, Jenn and Philip all stayed late. We planned to go watch fireworks on the lake but as we were going down to the boat we heard thunder and it started raining on us. We decided not to risk getting out after dark in a storm, so we sat at the cabin and talked until like 10 pm. I was soooo sleepy, so finally Jenn and Philip left and Lori, Anthony and Cutler slept at the cabin with us. They snuck out early the next morning to head to Selma and we slept late- I actually got to sleep until after 9 pm! Ahhhh so nice and rare these days.
We got up the day after and cleaned the cabin from top to bottom to try to divert the creepy crawlies.
Like I said I was too busy to take many photos but here’s my Lil Firecracker:

Sounds like a great 4th! I didn’t know you grew up on the river…I did, too! I loved laying out on the boat watching the stars after a long day of swimming at the sandbar. One night, we saw one shooting star after another — too many to count!
Garrett is such a cutie!!!
