If you live in the Birmingham Metro area and you have never been to the Pepper Place Farmers Market on a Saturday morning, you are totally missing out on one of the best things to do in this city. It’s happening every Saturday ’til October 7th, so you better hurry if you wanna catch it this year. They start back up in May.
On a recent visit I scored this gorgeous handmade hydrangea wreath.
Fits perfectly on my little balcony wall.
I walked by the guy 3 times and finally on my way out I went back and told him that I really wanted it. He said he’d make me a deal and offered to take $40 for it (it was $60 on the first three passes). I said “DEAL!” and snatched that sucker up.
I had a great time wandering through the antique stores. I swear some of that stuff has been in those same booths since I worked at Pepper Place in 1997! I know that zebra rug that was in the back booth at Interiors Market near the old Wild Root Cafe was there then. It still fun to browse. I can remember going to the Coke machine every day at lunch and walking past huge armoires that were stored in the back hallway behind Richard Tubb’s.
Nineteen year old minimum wage earning Beth would look at the price tags nearly faint. Now I look at that stuff and go, “Hmm that’s a pretty good deal. But I bet I could find it cheaper somewhere else.” Funny how your grownup outlook changes. I’m still a penny pinching, bargain hunting, deal whore, but at least it doesn’t make my eyes bug out these days.
