Hey there all you gardenistas! Hope these past two weeks have been warm, springy and full of Vitamin D for everyone. We’ve had some wild weather here in the Southeastern US and more is coming our way tomorrow. On April 15th we had 41 confirmed tornado touchdowns across Alabama.
41.
Yeaaaahhh…
Check out this INSANE piece of hail that fell somewhere in the Dallas area earlier today. They called it a “shanksicle”.
Um. Wow. My new tomato plant wouldn’t stand a chance against that icy weapon of mass destruction. I think we could all use a shot of sunshine and happy little flowers this week!
Chris at Red Gate Farm gave me a dose of happy by sharing all of the plants and trees that grow around her GORGEOUS 20 acre farm in the Pacific Northwest. I’m a sucker for stately old trees, and her blog entry and backyard seem to be full of them. And her rhododendron is as big as an apple tree! Amazing! Thanks for giving us a tour of your beautiful farm, Chris!
Speaking of trees, check out all the work that the Fishtail Cottage put in their yard recently! EIGHT Bradford pear trees were planted. WOW! That is a lot of digging! They will be just spectacular for many springs to come when they are in full bloom. I will say that it cracks me up that the Grumpy Gardener refers to them as “Tuna on a Trunk” because of their fishy smell when flowering. They really are beautiful trees! I wish their odor matched their aesthetics. I’ve always admired Bradford Pear trees.
I liked this post by Betty at My Cozy Corner about her tulips that arrived just in time for Easter. That truly is a cozy corner you have growing over there! I love seeing how everyone’s gardens grow. It inspires me to do better things with mine. Her bearded irises are calling my name. I need more irises in my life.
I’m also really enjoying perusing this blog that is packed with all sorts of great gardening information. Heather at Dusty Bay has done a great job of posting TONS of gardening information in a clean and easy-to-read format. She has an impressive catalogs of plants documented over there! Definitely worth a look-see. Plus I fell in love with Vancouver and Victoria, BC when I traveled there a few years ago so it’s fun to see what is blooming there right now. This week she’s featuring Forget Me Nots. I can’t right click on her images though so you’ll just have to click on over there and see for yourself. (EDIT: pretty picture=stolen. Hope you don’t mind, Heather! )
All you guys who have been featured, please feel free to grab your “Best in Show” button from my side bar! 🙂
Ok, time to start the party for this week. I can’t wait to see what you all have to show off!
I would REALLY appreciate it if you’d add the button to your blog entry or side bar so that other folks can join in the party, too. Thanks so much for spreading the word!
Here’s how it works:
1. In the McLinky below, add a permalink to your specific blog post, not the main page of your blog.
2. Please add a link to this garden party directly from your post so others can join in on the fun! You can grab the code in the box above.
Yay! Let’s party! Thanks for the shout out, you are very kind!! Now, let’s slip off our shoes and head out into the sunshine and start partying in the garden!
Wow! So many pretties!
If it would stop raining for, I don’t know, 30 seconds or so, maybe I could actually go outside and start working in the garden. Not yet. I’m pretty bitter about it.
And I just have to say – shanksicle is a word I’m planning to add to my vocabulary by using at least 3 times a day. To my coworkers: “She’s being a real shanksicle.” To my nemeses: “Why don’t you go suck on a shanksicle.” The possibilities are endless.
“Tuna on a Trunk” ??? – No way!! I love that smell of bradford pears! 🙂
Woo Hoo! So happy to find garden linkups 🙂 And love your tagline ‘acres of wisdom’. I need some of that!
The cost of the christmas gift is trivial. One of my good friends once gave me his recipe
for one of my favourite dishes, scribbling it out in calligraphy on parchment paper, together with an offer to prepare it beside me.
Combined monetary value near zero, and still about the most fabulous and loving gifts that
I have ever received.
