I’ve found a few items recently at yard sales that I thought I’d link up over at Rhoda’s Thrifty Treasures party this weekend. Since it’s Memorial Day Weekend, let me first share this big beauty– an American flag that I got for a steal at a little antique store in Montevallo. I paid just $8.00 for this large flag that was in a bin of scrap fabrics.
It’s got some wear on it in places, but that makes it even more unique for me.
That just means it’s been flown proudly in the past. I was showing it to Garrett today and explaining to him why there are 50 stars and 13 stripes on our flag. It brought tears to my eyes to hold this symbolic piece of fabric in my hand and try to explain to my 4 year old why it equals freedom on this Memorial Day weekend. I don’t think he quite grasped what I was trying to express to him, but one day he will understand how blessed he is to be an American living in this age of amazingness.
I’m excited to own this beautiful flag. It will look great hanging by the pool for the 4th of July.
Here are three other scraps of fabric that I picked up from that same bin. I’m loving the striped mattress ticking pattern these days. Maybe I’ll whip together some pillows with these guys. Or, knowing my lack of sewing skill, maybe I’ll just toss them in my scrap fabric basket and keep dreaming.
While I’m feeding my mattress ticking addiction, I spotted this pretty little striped balloon shade at a big community wide yard sale that we participated in a few weekends ago. It was just $5.00 also! Can you believe that deal?
I am hoping to hang it in my son’s bathroom but first I’ve got to pick up a new curtain rod for it. I hung it up in my office just to show it off in this post, but it won’t stay here. I’m excited to find a curtain so cheap that was already finished and ready to go with the rings already attached.
While we were selling a trailer load of junk that we cleaned out of our basement and G’s playroom at that yard sale I was approached by a sweet girl named Brooke who asked if I as “that blogger chick”. I laughed and said yes, I was a blogger! Since we had gotten up at 5:30 in the morning to set up the booth I didn’t spend much time getting ready that morning. As I stood there in my baseball hat with no makeup on looking my worst I realized that this was my very first time being recognized from my blog. So hello to sweet Brooke, and thanks for being my first! Sorry I didn’t get a little more dressed up for ya! 🙂
How cool to meet a fan in the real world!
loving all the stripy fabric! i like sewing quilts and i always look in fabric bins…lol
Beautiful flag Beth!! Happy Memorial Day to you and your family!
Hi! I don’t think anyone can look good for a 5:30am yard sale! What antique store do you go to in Montevallo? Love your finds!
Thanks so much everyone!
Vintage- I’m not sure of the name, but it’s a fairly new one right by The House of Serendipity and the old Montevallo Grille. 🙂 Not sure of the new name of the grille either. LOL
I have a flag like that one!! And I love it!!
I just came upon your blog. I love all of your designs. How do you go about finding yard sales? I’m always looking for new ideas. Lately, I’ve been using the site http://www.yardsalesearch.com. Have you heard of it? It maps out lots of local yard sales, and I’ve noticed it even lets you advertise your own for free. I still need to use that feature. Anyway, just wanted to pass that along to a fellow yard-saler/diyer!
