How to add a Post a Comment link inside your blog post.

My new friend Dawn at WackyWhimsy asked me to share how I got the “Comment on This” clickable link inside each of my posts. This feature is helpful for your readers to comment easily on your blog if they use Google Reader or some other form of feedreading. They can access your blog comment form without actually coming TO your blog to leave a message.

It’s a simple process but a little hard to explain, so let me show you how I made that happen!

The first thing I did was create an image in Photoshop and typed the words “Comment on This” using a unique looking font. It has been so long since I made this image that I cannot even remember the font names anymore. If you would like to know I could dig them up for you. I changed the font color to blue and cropped the image down to an easily readable size so it looks like this:

Once I saved the image and uploaded it to flickr I could right click and grab the image source info just like adding any other photo to your blog via HTML.

That part is pretty simple.

Now, here is how you’ll need to adjust your blog settings to make it show up in each post:

On your Blogger dashboard, click Settings –> then choose Comments. Make sure your Comment Form Placement setting has the circle marked “Pop-Up Window” checked like this:

Then go to Settings –> Formatting

Scroll to the bottom and you will see a box that says Post Template:

Inside that box I have typed in the HTML code to add my “Post a Comment” image link inside each blog post I write. The beauty of this is that the code automatically generates every time I click “New Post” so I don’t have to re-write it every single time.

If you don’t want to type all that code out feel free to copy/paste/change your info from this box:

Each and every time you hit Publish on a new post. You are going to have to immediately click on the comment button as if you were going to comment on the post. Then at the top of the comment pop-up box you’ll see a link. Highlight and grab that entire link that ends in popup=true. Ctrl-C to copy it.

Then go back and edit the HTML of your new post and Ctrl-V to replace the old comment link with the new one every time.

You could also hover over “Post a Comment” and right-click, then click “Copy Link Location” and it would grab that same link URL for you to copy into your HTML. Either way will work.

It is SUPER IMPERATIVE that you change out that link URL location and republish your post every time you post a new blog entry to ensure that your readers comment on the correct post when they follow the link.

I feel like I haven’t clearly explained all of this, but if you have an elementary knowledge of HTML you should be able to make sense of it. Please feel free to ask me a question if not! I’ll try my best to answer it!

Definitely beautiful architecture when we walk in. The dome
shape is seen from most areas in Montreal and definitely very noticeable when you walk
in. It’s great to see the exhibits for environmental
preservation. However, the exhibits could have been more interactive and geared towards adults- when we were walking
through, it seemed like it was more marketed toward children to help them understand environmental issues than anything else.
