Last night I discovered that my glowing Christmas tree picture was recently featured on the blog over at Fossil.com. You know Fossil? Like the watch people? Yeah, they used my picture. Unbelievable! Thanks Fossil! This picture is the Energizer bunny of Christmas tree photos.
Since the popularity of Garrett under the glowing Christmas tree just keeps growing on pinterest, I keep wondering how many of you have actually followed through with trying out the tips I shared on taking a glowing Christmas tree this year. Then I thought to myself “You’ll never know unless you ask!”
So I wanna know– have you tried snapping a shot of your kid/pet/spouse/random body part in front of your glowing tree yet? How did it turn out? Do you mind sharing your pictures with us? We’d love to see them!
I’ve decided to host an impromptu link party for all you to show off your treasured Christmas tree photos this year. Please join in the fun!
Link them up here and show off just how Griswoldy your tree can be! If you know someone who pinned this photo, invite them to come over and share their tree pictures with us. I know I’ll never be able to get in touch with all 40,000 folks who pinned this sucker, but maybe if YOU pin this link party they’ll hear about it and wanna come show off their mad glowy skillz, too.
If you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, go see this post about how to take good glowing Christmas tree photos, then see this post about the power of Pinterest. Then come back here and link up! 🙂
I’ll keep it open until after the holidays in case you need some time to get it posted. I can’t wait to see ’em!
And if you don’t mind, please add this button to your blog so others can join in the fun, too!

I’ve tried the settings and it just showed as the way it usually shows. I’m not sure what I did or didn’t do . I’ll keep trying.
I love Impromptu Parties! Thank you for hosting and letting me share my Rusty, Junky, Shabby Tree pictures!
Janice
@Janice – Your pictures are great! Rusty, Junky and Shabby are my three favorite dudes! Thanks for linking up. 🙂
@Leesa- Are you in Manual mode? That’s odd. Not sure why it isn’t working for you.
I love this fun ideal, I just linked up and am very grateful that you are doing it. Richard from my Old Historic House.
I so need to try this! Will do in the next few days!
I think the pic turned out pretty good considering I’ve only had my Rebel for about a month! I followed your instructions but had to tweak them a bit since I don’t have the same lens as you. But I’m pretty proud of it! Thanks for letting me share! ~Lori
@Richard, thanks for linking up! That Italianate home is to die for! WOW.
@Hilani- Can’t wait to see them!
@Sarah Elizabeth- Heck yes it turned out GREAT! Your tweaks were perfect. You nailed it. Thanks for sharing.
Well, I tried, but it didn’t go very well. I did all the settings, except my ISO only goes up to 1800?
My question for you is, how did you get your son to be still for so long? Don’t these shutter speeds, etc. yield a very long shutter speed?
@I am LOVD- Aw, man, sorry it isn’t working out for you! That 1.8 lens that I used last year really made the difference I believe. What is the lowest aperture your lens will allow? 1.8 lets in a crazy amount of light so it really changes depending on that.
At 1800 ISO you should be able to get a good shot with a lower aperture lens, I think.
Since it lets in so much light it didn’t require a long shutter speed so I was able to snap that picture really quickly. He was trying to put an ornament on the tree so he was preoccupied while I snapped away.
Definitely going to try it at some point this Christmas season!
Hi Beth,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Your tip was very helpful and as you can see, i left the results on your link party 🙂 Again, thank u so much, love how amazing this technique makes my tree look 🙂

Warmly, Michelle
I just linked up with you! I love looking at all of these. What a great idea! 🙂
I have tried to adopt your ideas but I am such an amateur the pictures aren’t that great. I will link up my tree post that I am doing on my Christmas blog tomorrow though when I publish it! I love this idea for a link up and will add your party to my post!
Please feel free to link up this linky to my weekly Pinterest post at my main blog, 5 minutes just for me too! No need to link back. I’m sure my readership isn’t as huge as yours but I would be very honoured if you did-you know how much I love your blog and this wonderful tree image!
Blessings and best wishes,
Natasha.
Thanks for letting me know about your linky! I finally got my post up and linked to you. Happy Holidays!

What Fossil really did was violate copyright laws and steal your photo. They should have, at the very leas, asked permission to from you to use your photo and offered you money to do so.
