There is an incredible super moon out tonight. Have you seen it? Here it is from my yard in central Alabama at about 9:45 tonight.
How awesome is that?
I was able to take this amazing picture with my Canon 60D the stock zoom lens that came with the camera. My friend Jamie shared this great tutorial on shooting the moon on facebook earlier tonight. I decided to give it a whirl. I’m so glad I did.
I used my tripod and my new rocketfish wireless remote control. This website gave me the info I needed to get a good shot, but here are the details that I used to get this photo.
250mm focal length
ISO 160
f11
ss 125
I shot it with manual focus and adjusted the diopter a little to get it as close to clear as possible.
Two other things that made this photo easier to get were a stool for me to sit on while I got my settings right and some rewetting drops for my dry eyes and contacts. Oh, and a little bug spray wouldn’t have been a bad idea.
Get out there and take a peek at this beautiful moon tonight if you happen to catch it in time!

I so wish I had the equipment to try and shoot the moon. It is quite beautiful and bright in Omaha tonight! Your capture is fantastic!
This picture is amazing!
Love this! I so wish I would have walked outside last night and used my new camera lens to capture that pretty moon…instead I thought about it but, didn’t get up! Thanks for visiting Real Southern Living and I’m your newest follower!
Stunning, Beth…wow!
You really did an AMAZING job! I like when the Internets can guide the way on how to use our snazzy cameras.
AMAZING!! Great shoot, Beth! We were in Atlanta and I guarantee that it wasn’t as pretty there.
