Today we are wrapping up the week of Holiday Home Tours with the big Grand Finale of Doreen from Hymns and Verses! This lady has a back porch that is a dream. I just want to snuggle up on it with a book and some hot chocolate and hang out all day! Please remember to head over to her blog to pin the images so she can get the pageviews.
Merry Christmas friends and readers of Unskinny Boppy! There are a few blogs that I follow and learn so much from, and Unskinny Boppy is one of them! So, to be a part of this week’s tour with so many other blogs that I read and admire — well, it’s so exciting! Thank you, Beth, for inviting me to the party!
First, a little bit about me. I’m a wife to a hardworking man who has learned to live in a home with many projects going on at once and a garage full of things I bring home to “some day” make into something fabulous! I have three sons, who are as different as can be! And, I’m in the process of updating our home decor, one room at a time. On my blog, you will see those room transformations, how I repurpose thrifted items, and my love of DIY projects. After the tour, I hope you will stop by my blog, Hymns and Verses, and have a look around!
Now, let’s begin the tour in my living room. The colors I used to decorate this room are mostly silver and white.
The flocked Christmas tree is new this year. We normally cut down a fresh tree, but this year, I wanted to decorate early and not worry about the tree getting too dry. I’ve loved the look of flocked trees with their snowy branches, so I was excited to find this beauty at Walmart for a great price! One of my favorite things about the tree is the mirrored star! I found it at Marshall’s and I’m sure I’ll be using it for many years to come!
The mantel in the living room features a German glass glitter silhouette nativity set that I made last year. If you would like to make one yourself, I shared the templates and tutorial on my blog HERE.
Here are a few more images from my living room.
These music sheet poinsettias are another DIY project from this year. You can make some too with the templates I shared HERE.
Now let’s head into the dining room, where I added a pop of red to the silver and white!
The dining room chairs got a makeover with red and white buffalo check fabric. You’ll never guess where I got the fabric – from a tablecloth in the clearance aisle at Home Goods for just $5! The red quilt adds both color and comfort to the farmhouse bench.
Bunches of fresh greens tied with red ribbon dress up the chairs even more and a red quilt brings both color and comfort to my farmhouse bench.
The hot cocoa bar has everything you need to warm up after being outside in the cold!
We recently finished painting our cabinets and some other projects in the kitchen, so it was fun to decorate this updated space.
Do you recognize the fabric on the stag head art – yes, it’s from that same discounted tablecloth! This was a really easy project and it makes quite an impact on the range hood. The template and tutorial can be found HERE.
Here’s a fun little vignette on the countertop. The sparkly penguins got red scarves this year!
This fall I turned an old door into a family message center with a chalkboard, hooks to hang hats, scarves and keys, and mail basket. Here it is dressed up for the holidays.
Now let’s head out to the back porch – my favorite space this Christmas.
Can you tell I had a lot of fun decorating out here!
The tree is decorated with wood stars, a rope garland, yarn balls, and small embroidery hoops with red and white checked fabric. The “believe” and “merry” cut outs and red and white striped stockings were just $1 each!
My own childhood tricycle and my boy’s radio flyer wagon look perfect paired together in front of the tree!
Aren’t these tiny cowboy boots adorable! They were a gift to my son on his first birthday – next year he is getting married!
The table in front of my glider holds an old Coke crate with some vintage mason jars filled with sand and tea lights surrounded by fresh greens.
I’ll end my tour here on the porch swing! Thank you so much for visiting my home today – I hope you enjoyed your time here! I’d love for you to stop by my blog, Hymns and Verses, and say Hello! And, I’m sending a virtual hug to Beth for inviting me to be part of this fun Holiday Home Tour! Wishing you all – a Very Merry Christmas!
Absolutely beautiful, one of my favorite tours. Doreen’s house is beautiful and I like her taste – so much so that I can’t pick what I like the best.
Your porch is to “pay big $$$ for. I love everything down to the pine needles. What an eye for decorating and colors that “pop”. So sorry about your mom. I just lost mine 12/08/13 so we are in the same place right now. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing decorations, art, crafts and your porch. Try to have Happy Holidays. I will be praying for your dad.
Oh wow, everything is gorgeous. I love your style and your home is so beautifully decorated for Christmas. Hugs, Marty
