If you follow me on Instagram then you’ve seen several pictures of our new house already, including the patchwork quilt of a roof that we’ve been living under for a few months. A new roof was the very first thing the inspector recommended that we do after we moved in, but unfortunately, it rained for approximately 89.666 days of the first 90 that we lived here. Thankfully the roof held up through all of those torrential spring rains.
But finally, the sun came out and the rain dried up, and we were able to get our roof replaced.
I had good intentions of doing some yard work this day, but it was raining nails and shingles all day, so I spent the day on my mom’s couch being lazy instead. I couldn’t even get inside my house because every doorway was covered in old roof.
After three days of incessant hammering, we finally came home one day to see this:
And just like that, our 17-year-old home got an instant facelift. After that, we hired my cousin Jackie to pressure wash the driveway, so it really looks brand new!
Thanks so much to everyone who weighed in on the shingle color decision on Instagram and Facebook. I was debating between Weathered Wood (kind of a brownish grey color) and Charcoal. I went with the GAF Natural Shadow Charcoal Shingles after everyone voted to go with a dark roof, and I’m so glad that I did!
It makes our shutters pop, and looks so good with the grey brick. And hooray for a lifetime warranty. Please hope they last an actual lifetime.
