Have you seen the beautiful wall mounted hexagon spice jars with magnetic lids? My jaw dropped the first time I saw one, because I absolutely LOVED the honeycomb pattern they created with all the varying shades of spices.
I knew I had to have one in the little niche where I store all my cutting boards in my kitchen.
I bought my hexagon spice jars with magnetic lids from Gneiss Spice, but their magnetic wall mounting plates were not my favorite. They were all boring grey stainless steel, and I wanted something prettier for my space. The jars and lids have held up really well, though I see there are other versions of them on Amazon that also have good reviews.
I love the look of copper accents in my kitchen rather than grey stainless steel. Since copper is NOT magnetic, I had to get creative and make my own backer plate for my spice rack. I purchased an 8×16 stainless steel push plate and glued a sheet of copper onto it. I had some leftover copper tape from a previous project, so I used that to wrap the edges and make them nice and smooth.
This beautiful honeycomb spice rack is one of my most favorite items in my kitchen now! Not only is it beautiful, but convenient for cooking. My daughter loves to make “potions” with my spices, so I buy some cheap ones for her to play with and use the rest for my own. It’s such a fun addition to my kitchen nook!
DIY Magnetic Copper Spice Rack
- 12″ square copper sheathing
- 8×16 Stainless Steel Push Plate with screws included
- Gorilla Glue
- 24 Hexagon Spice Jars with magnetic lids (mine are from Gneiss Spice)
- Copper Tape (optional)
Instructions:
Glue the copper sheet onto the stainless steel plate using gorilla glue. Use a plastic credit card or scraper tool to gently wrap the edge of the copper around the metal plate. You can use copper tape around the outside edge for an extra detail but it’s not necessary. Press with heavy books or magazines and allow to dry. Attach to the wall with 4 screws (the copper is easy to drill through). Attach hexagon magnetic lid spice jars and enjoy!
I just love the beautiful copper sheet of this spice rack. The hexagon bottle are so cute! They look like a little beehive. I have to get my husband to make me this diy spice storage.
Yes! The shape is what I loved the most!
