A house painting update.

The painters are putting the finishing touches on the paint today, and I’m SO excited to see the final results all put back together. I have a feeling I’m gonna have to shop in my house some and rearrange things to make the work, but that’s the fun part!

Here is the update as of 8:30 this morning:

As a side note: Some of y’all asked who was doing the painting, so let me say right now… NOT ME! Heck no. No way could I climb to the top of my foyer ceiling and do all that myself! Let me introduce you to the best painter in all of Central Alabama, Francisco!

He and his crew have done jobs for my company since Garrett was five months old. I remember that because I took a picture of him painting our old rental office for A Day In the Life: The Five Month Edition. He is super nice and his crew is super talented and fast. His trim guy is just unbelievable. I’m so envious of his cutting-in abilities. If you ever need any local painting done give me a shout and I’ll hook you up with his info.

Um, yeah, I made a good decision. Thank you Allison, for letting me steal this beautiful paint idea from your house!

We also decided to add another layer of picture molding underneath our crown in the kitchen and paint it all to match the rest of the crown in the house.

That was a GREAT decision. Every room on the main level has this type of crown now. It’s an easy way to give the illusion that you have huge 10″ crown molding when in reality you have a regular 4″ piece, then a little sheetrock, then a 1″ piece of picture molding all painted with high gloss white.

It looks great with that new paint! And your eye is drawn to it instead of the line where the previous owners painted over a wallpaper border. 🙂 I hope that is going to disappear now that he mudded over it and sanded it down. He also patched all the holes left over from the curtains that we removed.

Here is the no-flash shot. Even in bad lighting it’s still great looking paint.

The major area of the house that I’m really unsure about is the living room, foyer and balcony area. I chose Benjamin Moore Sail Cloth for those areas, and it’s really hard for me to get used to the WHITEness of it compared to the old color.

Huge difference. And not in a good way, necessarily. I need to find a happy medium somewhere. The foyer is the part I dislike the most.

I feel like it really needs some warming up with a darker color since it gets a fair amount of natty light. (<--Like my cheap beer reference in there? I could have used a drink or two when walked into all this whiteness the first night.) I'm gonna to let one grow on me. told J that giving myself weeks and if don't figure out way love it by then am changing it. looking at this grey paint post from Kim at Newlywoodward for some good grey/greige inspiration.

The dining room underwent quite a few changes in a short amount of time. It started out dark green, then he painted the SW North Star on top, and it turned a granny-powder blue.

I freaked about it being too grannyish and we tried to change it to SW Seasalt in mid-stride. But the samples of that on the wall looked like a little bit like toothpaste so I scrapped that idea. Then a lightbulb went off and I ran upstairs for a half used can of custom mixed paint that I had lying around when I painted my photo collage on a column and craigslist desk.

This paint doesn’t have a name because it’s a custom match that I got from this little piece of furniture that I brought home from the lake cabin:

Here is the label with the info in case you’d like to get it matched up! It’s somewhere between BM Rock Grey and BM Englewood Cliffs.

It’s like a dark steel blue/ elephant grey / storm cloud color. And I LOVE IT!!! It’s so perfect on my dining room walls. I’m glad I went darker in there again instead of lighter since the rest of the house is SO light now.

And finally, my very favorite room of them all.

Painted Sherwin Williams Seasalt.

It is just perfection.

I don’t have words for how much I love this room now. The light in here makes this color look like the inside of a bathtub when it’s filled up with water. Clear blue/green spa perfection without a hint of toothpaste.

I love it.

This weekend is going to be focused on getting ALLLLL my crap put away and cleaned up after being torn a part for them to paint everything. Did you notice that I had to empty my entire china cabinet for them to move it? Yeah. Lots to do.

Plus my entire house is now covered in sheetrock dust. It’s everywhere!

But that’s ok, because I adore my new paint colors!
